The Willard R-II School District recognizes each student as a unique individual, and believes that education should provide an opportunity for the maximum development of each individual within the limitations of his capacities. Through education, it is possible for the individual to discover and endeavor to achieve to the limits of his capacities. This commitment includes providing opportunities for those students identified by this district as academically gifted. Our district recognizes that academically gifted students possess extraordinary abilities to think creatively and critically. The needs of these students can best be met by a differentiated curriculum which allows gifted students regular opportunities to interact with and be stimulated by their intellectual peers without being isolated completely from their regular school program.
The Willard R-II Gifted Program (Grand Prairie Pioneers) has been designed to provide opportunities in a differentiated curriculum. Curriculum units offered emphasize thinking skills, challenge, enrichment, computer skills, as well as group and independent projects encompassing the areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies.
